today is my half birthday

Ok so it's not nearly as cool as my regular birthday but you kinda invent things to celebrate around here.

So I recieved my site assignment and I now know where I'll be living the next 2 years. In a very nice and very small town called Doune (also spelled Dounet or Dounee) so if you want to look in up on a map its about 30 kilometers west of Mamou in the Fouta region. I'm super excited b/c there are plenty of oranges, tomatoes, potatoes, manderines, avocatoes, and lettuce. All fun and cheap things that is not rice and sauce (the Guinean staple).

Ok I'm in Mamou now and we are having counterpart workshop this weekend and then I will travel to my site on Sunday. I'll spend a few days there and then travel to my regional capital in Labe, also in the Fouta. Its nice to be out of Forecariah for a the week and get some perspective on what life will be like in my village. I know that I do not have electricity or running water. Both I'm growing accustomed to living without and its kinda cool....and we'll see what I really have to say about that in like 6 months!

Well I'm tired and I have a papaya with my name all over it. I'll post pictures just as soon as I can figure it out. Hopefully this weekend.

Cheers,
Rasa

Yo Rasa!! Wassup girlfriend!!!

I am totally dismayed to think that there's no Famous Dave's near you or even on the same continent. I will have to consume enormous amounts of ribs and pulled pork barbecue in your honor as often as possible.

Glad to hear things are going well, I did hear about your intestinal challenge and it sounds like you're OK now! Nevertheless, the thought of no toilets and no electricity is hard for this Princess to comprehend.

Wilson is well, as I'm sure you've heard. I believe he has certainly snuggled his way into someone's heart!!!

My knees are quite fine now! I have been walking on the treadmill (half a mile each time) and I walked from Penn Wynn to the Bala Theater - a whole freakin' mile!!! And no, I'm not entering any marathons just yet. I very fondly remember your wonderful care for me when I was in the hospital. Nobody gives a better shower!!!

Take plenty of pictures, I can't wait to see you in your new home.

Much love to you my sister-niece,
Erva

Dear Rasa,
So happy to hear you are so happy. From a Mommy perspective, that is the first thing we worry about.
I cannot wait to see pictures. My initial thought, when I read your inormation, is that you must be getting very thin eating rice and fruit. I am more into the ice cream diet myself.
I am look forward to learning more about your life and experiences as you post them. We are all very proud of you and of course no one is prouder of you than your Mom.
Be well,
Hugs,
Mrs H-C
