I'm at Site now!!!!!
I survived my first week at site and dare I say it was successful!
It's been a long time since I bloged and I'm sorry for that during my swearing in ceramony I was really sick and I had zero energy for almost a week so I was unable to muster the strength to use the internet. I know that sounds weird but EVERYTHING here is a process and a half and trust me it takes a ton of time and energy to use it! Then in Labe the interenet was down.
So leaving my Forecariah family was really hard and we all cried a bit. I miss them alot b/c they're the only family I know here. I have a new family now and I'm almost back to square one with communication b/c almost all of them only speak Pulaar. And as you all know I barely speak French!
The ceremony we had in Conakry was really nice I enjoyed it as much as possible then proptly went to bed b/c I was still very sick. I'm all better now and thank goodness too b/c going to site sick would have been horrible.
The first week went well as I mentioned. Some excellent highlights were the soccer tournament in my town orgainzed my my brother and a bunch of his friend had thier finals this week and on Wednesday was the championship and I got to hand out the medals to the champtions and I got my photo taken with all of them!!! So fun. Then Wednesday night was a big party in honor of the tournament and I was the guest of honor at the dance....so hilarious I really wouldn't be able to begin. My brother gave me a hard time because I was wearing sandals and they were not proper shoes for dancing...so I had to change into my sneakers! Whatever. I got a big kick out of it. Oh and I was the oldest person at this party/dance by a good 5-8 years!
Hopefully this week I can meet the teachers at the junior high again and start attending the French classes there and making more connections in the village. Everyone has been so nice to me and welcoming its making the transisiton alot easier.
I would like to wish my sister a very happy birthday tomorrow! I know I can't talk to you Aimee but I've been thinking about you all week. And to thouse of you thinking of visiting....my family and the few people I do know in town are thrilled to hear that mom and Mrs. H-C and Aimee are already making plans. They think it's the coolest thing that more Americans are coming to their village!
I have to run b/c we are going to spend at least 2-3 hours at the bank figuring out how to set up an account. I have the patience of a saint now....well almost.
Hugs and kisses to everyone.
Cheers,
Rasa

YAY! I am the first one to comment! First of all, thank you for the birthday shout out! 23 YIKES! I am so glad to hear that you are doing well and are happy at your site! I think it is so great that the whole village seems to be welcoming you with open arms! I cannot believe that now that you have finally gotten a grasp on French, they need you to learn Pular! Which by the way, I looked into Pular and it is not an easy language! Not that I expected it to be but it seems a little crazy! I actually was a complete dork and downloaded this huge PDF packet that was created by the Peace Corps to help people to learn Pular! It's probably the same one they gave to you! So now I am going to have to brush up on my Pular before I come at Christmas time!
By the way, is that still a good time to come? I think I am going to fly from Philly to Paris and then Paris directly to Conakry because it seems to be the cheapest way to do it. I AM SO EXCITED! I'll write more in my email to you and I have also written you a letter so look out for that in the mail! I love you and I am so glad that you are so happy over there but I am really missing our daily phone calls more than ever! Stay safe! Also, keep a good record of all of these fun stories to share with everyone in your posts because they help paint a wonderful picture of what life is like for you over there! I am sending you lots of big hugs right now! GRRRRRAAA! I don't know if that is what a hug sounds like but I think you get the picture! I love you!
Love always,
Your little sister
Yay Rasa!!!!! I think about you every single day. I really need to get my act together and write you a letter. What is the write address for us to write to now? Can somebody please post the address, or you can email it to me at stackattack@gmail.com. Thanks!!
Keep on rocking Rasa!
Love,
Becky
PS. I'm really not that dumb....I just realized I spelled "right" wrong above. Please ignore that!
