Library Project: Call to Action

This is my first act of business in Guinea...about time huh? My community has expressed a need for a Library/Community Center b/c nothing of it's type exists in Dounet. What I am trying to find is a counterpart in France that would be willing to work with me and facilitate a book drive. I am looking for mostly children's and adolescent's books because the majority of the people here do not have a high reading level. Also looking for educational reading materials...I'll take anything. But of course this all must be in French.

Please if you know of anyone who maybe interested in helping me that would be key I cannot move forward with the building until I have secured a contact for the books. Please feel free to send this email to anyone you can think of and have them contact me directly at any of the following.

Email obviously being the fastest. My idea is that once I find someone to work the book drives in France I can work with the community to renovate a currently unused building and then also work with Peace Corps to find the funding to send the books from France here. Please if you have any ideas let me know.

I'm hoping in the future I can use the Library as a place for youth group meetings. I'm trying to set up a peer education group for AIDS awareness as well as a business group and possibly a theater/performance troupe. All of which will benefit from such a space. Thank you for helping even if it's just to forward on my message I do appreciate it.

Much love,
Rasa

Hi Dear Rasa,
Your project sounds very exciting and very needed. I'll ask around to see if I can find any books in French. Do you want books mailed to you? or where?
All is well in Colorado, all the Chaffer's are busy working -Steven's umpiring mostly in Boulder, Hanna's working at Sears selling shoes, Terry's traveling around Colorado for Sears, and I'm hoping to cut back to 4 day's/week at Hospice. We've been settling in our new home and neighborhood, and having friends over for lots of weekend BBQ's.
I think of you every day and love to hear about everything you're doing.
Love and kisses, Gina
